Superior Pecans & Gifts in Eufaula, Alabama

the streets of downtown Eufaula, Alabama: historical storefronts, flags flying high, and an elaborate center-street fountain

We recently took an extended road trip to Florida, heading to the panhandle (Panama City Beach) for a week, then on to Central Florida. We found this adorable while stopping for the night in Alabama. When we saw “pecans” on the sign, we couldn’t resist stopping in Eufaula. Pecans are my mom’s favorite, so I knew I’d be able to find a delicious souvenir for her at Superior Pecans & Gifts.

The streets of Eufaula (pronounced yoo-faa-luh) are picturesque. They are full of small town, southern charm and Superior Pecans has been part of it for nearly a century!

We walked into the shop and — oh my goodness — it had so much more than just pecans!

Superior Pecans

While chatting with the employees, I found out that the the shop has been around practically forever. Since 1934! About 5 years ago it moved and expanded, adding a coffee shop. I guess it went well because they eventually decided to sell ice cream, too.

The first things that wowed us were the Pecan Handstacks, 2-pound and 3-pound rounds of perfectly picked pecans that are stacked by hand. The result is something about the size of a layer cake and nearly as beautiful!

Of course, the shop offers pecans of all kinds. There were several varieties, from natural to bourbon praline. Some of the coated pecans were savory, like the cajun spiced, but most were sweet. I chose a big bag of praline pecans: pecans covered in a candy coating made from sugar, brown sugar, butter, and cream.

Everything Else

We continued exploring the shop and discovered that Superior Pecans also carries dressings, hot sauces, barbecue sauces, brittles, candies, and jams and jellies.

We had a giggle over the BEAR, FROG, and TOE jams! Of course, they don’t really contain bears, frogs, or goo from between anyone’s toes. The names are acronyms for the fruits used to make them: blueberry/elderberry/apple/raspberry, fig/raspberry/orange/ginger, and tangerine/orange/elderberry.

We scooped up a few of these preserves, including some FROG and moonshine jellies that I suspected I wouldn’t be able to find back in Virginia.

Once we were done browsing, I grabbed an iced coffee, which is made from the Large Mouth Coffee breakfast blend. It’s typically served with some sweetener and syrup, but I declined both and enjoyed it black.

It was so smooth that I decided to pick up a whole bag of beans, but quickly noticed there were other options. I decided on a bag of Southern Pecan, a coffee with chunks of pecans in the beans!

It as too early for ice cream, so I let the kids each pick out a bag of classic candies. After lunch, they devoured them in one sitting.

When we finally arrived in our destination, we brewed a pot of Southern Pecan coffee and were wowed by the nutty, rich flavor. We’ll definitely make a point to stop by Superior Pecans & Gifts the next time we are near Eufaula!

Holly, great post. It reminds me of the Sans Saba Pecan Co in San Saba, TX. It is a fun road trip & we have taken the grand-daughters several time to pick out pecan jellies to bring home. Pre covid, they always had pecan pie slices, pecan coffee, everything pecan. The last time we went they gave the girls long poles to knock down their own pecans to pick up and bag. The girls thought they were in heaven – Papa & I just had to watch where they were swinging the sticks. Article brought back memories. Thank you!

Thank you! I will have to check it out when I finally get to Texas. Pecan coffee was so much better than I expected; I can’t imagine the overload if I had it with pecan pie! I bet it would be worth it.
