Yarn & Y’all [Local Yarn Shop]

After a few days of traveling in Virginia and North Carolina, we were finally in South Carolina! When I realized we’d be headed right by Yarn & Y’all in Greenville, I reset the GPS. I don’t miss a chance to hit a yarn shop.

Yarn & Y’all is located in a strip mall and was less than 10 minutes from I-85. The shop is small, warm, and full! I found plenty of goodies here.

Yarn & Y’all: Inside the Shop

Does it need to be said? The name for this shop is seriously adorable.

So is its interior!

I adore the huge block letters that spell out KNIT and CROCHET.

Moving to the back of the shop, I found a rack of clearance yarns. Many were “big box” type yarns from larger companies. After combing through all the options, I purchased some Katia Big Ribbon yarn from this section and plan to use it to crochet a basket. (Update: It worked out beautifully! I posted the result on Instagram.)

After that was taken care of, I started looking for some yarn for knitting projects.

I was intrigued by this Fair Isle yarn from EYB Yarn. It’s a self-patterning yarn that works up to look like you’ve knitted it using different yarns in a Fair Isle technique. Each skein has 5 or 6 colors and patterns.

Local Goods

I also asked about local yarns, but Yarn & Y’all doesn’t carry many. I don’t think the yarn game is as strong in the South since the weather doesn’t always lend itself to handknits. A local carver does supply their yarn bowls, though, and they’re lovely!

Yarn & Y’all did have some yarn that is hand-dyed in Kentucky and I figured that was close enough to be considered regional. As we left, I purchased a single skein of Figment sparkly sock yarn from Deep Dyed Yarns in Calling Birds.

Look at this sparkle!

In addition to beautiful yarns, you’ll find several looms with projects in progress. I’m not a weaver, but I was impressed at the beauty of the projects on the loom and the finished objects on the wall.
