Moss Stitch (US)

The US designation has been included because Moss Stitch means something different in much of the UK and other regions! That Moss Stitch is the equivalent of the US Seed Stitch. This Moss Stitch is sometimes called American Moss Stitch or Irish Moss Stitch in those regions.

Whatever you call it, it’s a simple, classic knitting stitch. Comprised of only knits and purls, the result looks much more complex than the stitches actually are! This reversible pattern is worked over any number of stitches. Instructions are provided for the KAL, which include 4 border stitches of Stockinette stitch (2 per side). For instructions for general use, see “Other Applications.”

Setup

With Color C, work 2 rows St st.

Stitch Pattern

Row 1 – k2 *k1, p1* to last 2 sts, k2
Row 2 – p2 *k1, p1* to last 2 sts, p2

Row 4 – p2 *p1, k1* to last 2 sts, p2
