Virginia’s LOVEworks

Visiting Loveworks in Virginia is one of our favorite activities. It combines several things we love: traveling, scavenger hunts, and taking fun photos. We always stop for photos when we see something interesting. Lately that has been at least once per trip because Loveworks are everywhere!

What are these Loveworks in Virginia?

Basically Loveworks are signs that spell out “L-O-V-E.” Maybe you have heard of Virginia is for Lovers, the state’s tourism campaign. Loveworks are part of that campaign.

The standard Loveworks sign is fairly plain, however, these aren’t found in too many places. This version has big, white, block letters on a solid base.

I think that the best Loveworks are more creative. For example, a sign with oars in the shape of an “E” might be found in a boating community. Likewise a sign with a giant tire for the letter “O” may be found near a quarry. As you might imagine, those types of signs really stand out!

I love these signs for many reasons. Above all, I love that they are creative. I love to see what each community chooses for their sign because the possibilities are endless. Similarly, finding them is super fun! Before we started our Loveworks hunt, road trips could get boring. Now even a stop at a rest area can be an adventure!

It’s common to find Loveworks at important places, like historical sites. Occasionally they are in odd places like empty parking lots, too. They can be found wherever there is something to love in Virginia. In other words, they can be found everywhere!
