The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen [Restaurant Review]

On our last visit to Universal Orlando, we secured a reservation for The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen! We had heard such good things about this quirky restaurant and we couldn’t wait to try it ourselves.

Toothsome is located in CityWalk, the town center-style area in between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. You can’t miss the building, a stylized factory from the mid-1800s.

Inside, the theming continues. The restaurant is multi-level and whether you’re dining on the main floor or scaffolding-type balconies near the bar, you’ll have a great view of the chocolate production down on the “factory floor” through large “windows.”

Our server arrived, friendly and engaging, and told us a bit about the dishes that make Toothsome special. We elected to start off with the chocolate almond bread, a small loaf of bread served with salted caramel butter.

I enjoyed the bread, but favor profile was too bitter for the kids, who don’t like whole wheat or rye. Even the tiny bursts of chocolate couldn’t convince them that the bread was sweet enough. As a result, I ate more than my fair share! We all agreed that the butter, which had just a hint of caramel flavor, was excellent.

For lunch, we ordered the Southern Fried Chicken BLT, Cheddar Bacon Burger, and Mini Burgers. This certainly does not capture the scope and scale of the menu, but after a few long park days, we were anxious to have some comfort food.

The burgers were excellent and cooked exactly to order.

The Southern Fried Chicken BLT was also excellent. The fried chicken breast was impressive and, after eating more bread than I should have, it was nearly impossible to finish!

Stuffed, we didn’t have a chance to try any of the legendary desserts. Our server, who was attentive throughout the meal, quickly provided our check so we could check out the sweet shop.

While the macarons were gorgeous, the chocolates really caught our eye. We grabbed an assortment of truffles, not sure if the flavor would be as good as the appearance. It was! Lemon blueberry and hazelnut were the all-around favorites.

Next time, we’ll have the macarons… and one of those giant milkshakes!
