The Knittin’ Coop [Local Yarn Shop]

The Knittin’ Coop is a local yarn shop in downtown Salem, Virginia.

🧶 This visit is part of the Ultimate Virginia Yarn Crawl.

Salem is a city in southwestern Virginia located right off of Interstate 81. It’s home to Roanoke College… and the chicken-themed local yarn shop known as The Knittin’ Coop.

Inside The Knittin’ Coop

Here’s a peek inside this lovely little shop in downtown Salem!

The shop is split into two areas: the shopping area and the communal/maker space. In the shop area, I found everything I needed for my next project. In the maker space, fiber artists were gathering for lessons, help on projects, and to simply spend time working with other crafters.

I immediately fell in love with this shop when I saw the needle wall, which was absolutely full of ChiaoGoo knitting needles! (In case you didn’t know, ChiaoGoo makes my absolute favorite knitting needles.)

The shop also carried tons of yarn from local and regional dyers. Local yarn shop staples like Plymouth Yarn Co. and Malabrigo were well-stocked, too.

While I was there, I purchased a couple unique skeins of yarn for my next project. I will definitely return the next time I’m in this area!
