Portcullis Stitch

This stitch caught my eye because I could not quite figure out how it was made. The vertical rib-like pattern is matched by horizontal rows that emulate ribs.

Worked over stitch multiples of 4+1, Portcullis Stitch is beautiful in one color or many colors.

Setup

With Color B, work 2 rows St st.

Stitch Pattern

Row 1 – k2, k2tog, *(k1, yo, k1) into the same st, sl 1, k2tog, psso* to last 4 sts, end (k1, yo, k1) into the same st, k2tog, k1
Row 2 – p all

Repeat both rows with Color C.

Continue to repeat Rows 1 and 2 and to alternate colors until this section measures 3.25″ (5.25″).

Finishing

With last color used in pattern, work 2 rows St st.

Leave your stitches on the needle for next week. Weave in your tails.
