Knit Wit is a local yarn shop in Culpeper, Virginia.

The Beginning

Several years ago, shop owner Rebecca Abecassis was stationed in Iceland. Taken by the traditional Icelandic sweaters, she decided she’d learn to knit one.

As the years passed, her family grew, she returned to the States… and she ran out of time for knitting. However when her daughter showed an interest in learning how to knit, she picked it right back up!

She soon found that her local quilting shop carried a small amount of yarn. Once she started knitting with it, she was captivated by its beauty and the possibilities it held.

Once her children were grown, Rebecca found herself in a position to open her own shop: Knit Wit. The shop is still going strong 12 years later.

Knit Wit Yarn Shop

The shop carries a variety of yarns and Rebecca prides herself in her ability to work well with small and large distributors. It’s these strong relationships that she’s built that enable her to find the exact yarn you’re looking for (if it isn’t already on the shop shelves).

Knit Wit is proud to stock yarn from Virginia dyers Wild Hare Fiber and Baad Mom Yarns as well as Virginia-based Cestari yarns. You’ll also find needle felting supplies, roving, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and notions on the shelves there.

Knit Wit also carries clothing and gift items, the result of a partnership with another local Sperryville shop. Here you’ll find local, fair trade, responsibly sourced, and US-made products such as tea sets, mugs, baby items, dresses, fabric, jewelry, bakeware, and glassware.

Knit Wit offers a variety of classes on knitting techniques as well as classes on needle felting, spinning, and dyeing.

You can typically find Knit Wit at the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival and Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier each year.
