House Mountain Yarn Co. [Local Yarn Shop]

House Mountain Yarn Co. is one of my favorite local yarn shops! I’ve stopped there a few times in the past several years as I make my way up and down I-81. I’ll use any reason to stop again.

🧶 This visit is part of the Ultimate Virginia Yarn Crawl.

I love that this shop is just a couple minutes off of the interstate. During the quick drive there, I soak up the picturesque scenery and pristine campus of Virginia Military Institute.

The shop itself is located right in the middle of downtown Lexington. The Main Street of this charming, historical hamlet is lined with intriguing shops.

The Shop

The shelves are packed with beautiful yarns! You can find all your LYS mainstays like Berroco and Plymouth in any color you can imagine.

The calendar at this shop is still full of events!

This shop prides itself on using best practices during COVID-19. Frequently touched surfaces are sanitized regularly, events are held outdoors, and both patrons and employees wear masks. The number of shoppers at any given time is also limited.

By the door, there was hand sanitizer available next to a basket of complementary handmade mask extenders!

I can’t speak highly enough about the service we received.

Ellie was helpful, friendly, and embraced my three young tagalongs. She even sent me a resource via email to help children learn to knit!

While there, I picked up an adorable, reversible project bag from a local artist (Beth Jewell) and a new pair of ChiaoGoo Red Lace circular needles. (Swoon!)
