Fall Family Getaway at Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort

Good morning from the beautiful Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort!

We are so excited to be here. Our kids have never been to Gatlinburg, so I knew this would be a special trip. Staying here gave us even more to enjoy!

Here’s a peek into our October week at Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort.

The resort is nestled into the Smoky Mountains and the cabin design makes it feel warm and inviting before you even step in.

A Place to Stay: Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort

We stayed in two adjoining condos in a large cabin about half a mile up the side of the mountain.

The first thing we noticed when we arrived at our cabin was the view. It was absolutely stunning.

To get there, we had to follow winding roads that felt like they were going straight up! This is why the view is so good.

My son was excited to see we were staying above some of the clouds!

The rooms were beautiful. Little touches gave them a rustic feel, just like the rest of the resort. Each unit had a king-sized bed in the bedroom and a pull-out sleeper sofa.

There was also plenty of room to spread out and work or dine. Between our units we had seating for 12 at the tables!

We were easily able to continue virtual learning with enough workspace for everyone.

Our condos were slightly different in size with one boasting a larger kitchen and two full bathrooms. The second had a single bathroom, though the shower and sink area was separated from the toilet by a pocket door.

One had a large balcony facing Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The other had two intimate patios on the other side of the building. I spent most of my time working here.

Both units shared access to a picnic table and propane grill.

Wild Bear Falls Water Park

We didn’t spend any time in the outdoor pool this week as the high for Gatlinburg in October tends to top out around 70°.

In our case, 70° was a generous expectation. The weather was cold and rainy for two days of our visit! We’d planned for outdoor activities each day and needed something else to do.

Lucky for us, Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort also has an indoor waterpark! A vacation isn’t a vacation for us without a swim.

Wild Bear Falls Water Park is free for owners, but anyone can purchase tickets for admission! Children under 3 are free.

Our older two kids spent most of their time on the slides. Wild Bear Falls features one inner tube slide and one body slide.

Just a hair too short for the slides, our youngest was more interested in the giant bucket and lazy river. He also spent some time in the shallow pool playing basketball.

We didn’t spend much time at the zero-entry splash pad, but the babies that were there seemed to be having a blast!

There’s also a hot tub! Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to try it out. It was full the whole time we were there!

We spent about half a day splashing our hearts out. Due to COVID-19, the park closes mid-day for cleaning. The break helped me gently pry the kids away, a task that could have been much more challenging.

Nearby

Gatlinburg has a ton of activities to offer! If you’re willing to drive, there’s also Pigeon Forge, about 15 minutes away.

We spent our “away days” exploring visiting Dollywood, a nearby theme park, and Big Rock Dude Ranch.
