The Stitch Witch of Bedford [Local Yarn Shop]

The Stitch Witch is a local yarn shop in Bedford, Virginia.

🧶 This visit is part of the Ultimate Virginia Yarn Crawl.

The Stitch Witch interior sign: yarn, notions, classes, community

Back when I started the Ultimate Virginia Yarn Crawl, I was concerned about the future of the local yarn shop. Since I began visiting Virginia’s shops with the goal of reaching them all, a few have closed before I could get to them. When I saw that the The Stitch Witch was opening, it was like a personal sign that small businesses will rise again.

The Shop

The Stitch Witch is found in the small town of Bedford. This picturesque town is nestled in between the cities of Roanoke and Lynchburg.

Shortly after opening, The Stitch Witch moved from its original location. I visited the North Bridge Street shop, its current location. It is located behind The Bridge Street Café. (Note that this coffee shop is not open on Wednesdays, much to our disappointment.)

Despite being tucked behind a café, The Stitch Witch’s shop space is bright and tall, with very high ceilings. The whole place was full of natural light, even on a fairly gloomy day.

It’s also spacious. Yarns and notions line the walls of the L-shaped shop. I found classics like Noro, Plymouth Yarns, Malabrigo, and Queensland throughout the shop. They don’t carry many novelty yarns, but I did find an intriguing cake of Louisa Harding yarn.

The shop carries a nice variety of recommended yarns for Knitted Knockers. I love that this shop supports such a worthy charity!

There’s also a central table for stitch circles and classes! Classes are offered regularly and currently feature sock knitting, sweater knitting, and several seasonal felting opportunities.

I purchased some beautiful KFI yarn with plans to knit a striped Musselburgh, but there are a lot of possibilities here!

I also bought a new tape measure since my son broke my last one and a few finishing needles as I’ve somehow lost all of mine.

This is definitely a shop I’ll visit again next time I’m in town!
