Grilled Cheese Mania: A Perfect Pit Stop in Harrisonburg, Virginia

I have a soft spot for local restaurants and businesses. I discovered a shop called Grilled Cheese Mania in Harrisonburg, Virginia and knew I had to make a stop!

A large sign with a sandwich on it reads "Grilled Cheese Mania, Monday - Saturday, 11AM - 7PM"

Inside this shop, you’ll find more than just classic grilled cheese sandwiches!

The Grilled Cheese Mania Menu

While the shop does make a delicious classic grilled cheese, it also offers daily specials. These unique sandwiches are only available one day each week!

Luckily we visited on a Wednesday and we were able to try the Hungry Lucas Melt: ham, pepperoni, and provolone grilled on a baguette with a shot of tomato soup. This is exactly what I’d order if given the ability to order any sandwich and it was delicious. (Thanks for being hungry, Lucas!)

We discovered some creative tweaks to classic sandwiches on the menu, too. The two standouts were the Port Ruby, a vegetarian twist on the Reuben that’s served on multi-grain bread, and the Casey Snowflake, a steak-and-cheese style sandwich on a baguette.

For drinks, we had our choice of bottled water, Cindy’s Homemade tea, soda, limeade, and the Ava mix (limeade and tea). I’m admittedly a bit of a tea snob and always a bit nervous to try tea in a new restaurant. Thankfully Cindy’s Sweet Tea was cold, delicious, and, most importantly, fresh! It really hit the spot.

Any sandwich can be turned into a combo, which includes tea and Route 11 potato chips, for $3.25.

We also had the ability to customize any classic sandwich with our favorite ingredients. This was very easy with mobile ordering!

Outdoor seating is available, too. We took advantage of the opportunity to eat in the sunshine and appreciated that Grilled Cheese Mania offers contactless pick-up.

I love grilled cheese sandwiches, and adding all sorts of things. One of my favorite sandwiches is bacon and peanut butter on toasted extra sourdough. But add some super sharp cheddar, and grill it instead of toasting – buttery, salty, sweet, tangy, nutty, sharp, did I leave anything out? I’m in heaven! “Til I have to clean the pan.

Long time no chat, glad you’re all doing well and staying healthy.

Hey!!! So we’ve done grilled cheese and bacon as well as grilled peanut butter with jelly, but never had anything from the two cross otherwise. I’d be willing to try it, though, since it’s on sourdough!
