An Afternoon at Falls Park on the Reedy

We recently took road trip that lasted several weeks. It took us two days to reach South Carolina, where we were ready to stretch our legs. Picturesque Falls Park on the Reedy was just the place to spend an afternoon in the fresh air and warm winter sun.

Aptly-named Falls Park is right in the middle of Greenville, but is surprisingly still full of waterfalls! From the right angle, the trees and steep hillside can hide the buildings of downtown Greenville and you’ll altogether forget you’re in a city.

Exploring Falls Park on the Reedy

The entire park hugs a curve of the Reedy River, so it’s almost crescent-shaped. We followed trails, stairs, and stone pathways throughout the park.

We had to zigzag a bit to hit all of the park’s attractions, which include bridges, art installations, an amphitheater, ruins, and, of course, vegetation.

You could get lost for hours here. There’s so much to explore!

The Bridges

The Liberty Bridge is probably the first thing most folks about Falls Park. It’s the modern pedestrian bridge that spans the width of the park. We crossed it just before we left and it was definitely a case of saving the best for last! The view of the falls is breathtaking, but it gave me the willies as I don’t do so well with heights.

Smaller bridges also line the Reedy River throughout the park. They were some of the most beautiful spots we found there.

While there was tons of free street parking nearby, it was all occupied. Falls Park is busy on a Saturday! This is our only complaint about an otherwise fantastic experience.
