Clifton Café: Breakfast All Day

Clifton Café is a European-style café in historic Clifton, Virginia. This charming restaurant serves breakfast all day! They also host traditional English teas by appointment.

Clifton Café

Clifton is located in Fairfax County, Virginia and can best be described as a village. It’s a standout in the bustling county that is home to over one million people… and the worst traffic I’ve ever been stuck in! It’s so quaint that it’s almost Rockwellian.

The café is located in the Weaver House, a residence built nearly a century ago as the primary residence of the Weaver family. Back then they were the owners of the Clifton General Store, located just next door. Since then, Weaver House has become a café and the general store building has been updated to include shopping and dining opportunities: Clifton General Store and The Main Street Pub.

Coffee and Tea

Clifton Café has a coffee shop with a separate entrance, too. Though we visited in early afternoon, several patrons ordered coffee or picked up their call-ahead orders during our visit.

Teas at Clifton Café are only available by appointment. Choose from the Afternoon Tea, High Tea, or Royal Tea, starting at $20 per person. All tea services include a selection of black, green, and herbal teas, plus assorted tea sandwiches, pastries, and sweets.

The High Tea includes additional tea sandwiches. The Royal Tea also includes smoked salmon, fresh seasonal salad, and a glass of champagne.

I didn’t have tea during my visit, but it looks delightful. I made a note that it would be a great treat the next time I have an afternoon date with one of my children and want to go somewhere special.

More Than Coffee and Tea

The menu at Clifton Café includes savory crêpes, breakfast sandwiches, and potato breakfast bowls. The sweet breakfast options include dessert crêpes, waffles, French toast, and pancakes. If you’re dining later in the day, you may consider the menu’s many salads and sandwiches.

It was tough for me to choose between my favorites and the café’s other options. Luckily I was dining with my husband and he ordered the French toast. Since he was already having something with syrup, I reasoned my way into the Monte Cristo, which is a bit more savory.

Bananas Foster French Toast from Clifton Café: French toast with bananas, candied pecans, caramel syrup, and a side of bacon

The Bananas Foster French Toast was spectacular! Four slices of French toast were served covered in candied pecans, banana slices, and caramel syrup with a side of bacon.

The Monte Cristo was very good. This sandwich included ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese on French toast with a side of raspberry jam. (The tiny amount pictured is what they served it with; I requested 2 additional jams!) It was served with crispy kettle-cooked potato chips.

I had some of both the Bananas Foster French Toast was definitely tastier. Next time I’ll have that or perhaps something new, like a pumpkin cheesecake crêpe or chicken and waffles.
